Operations Manager

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Partner with the Operation’s captain to design and build a modern, automated, world-class distribution operation that embodies the hardworking, authentic, innovative, and fun-loving spirit of our company and culture.  Recruits and hire talent and trains existing workforce to fully execute all functions in the distribution center. The operation’s manager will have a deep knowledge of the technical processes required to efficiently pick, pack and ship and will leverage departmental capabilities to meet all departmental objectives and metrics.

This role must have a commitment to excellence in quick on-time shipping, operational processes, quality and the highest standard of safety, organization, and cleanliness. The successful candidate must also strive for mentorship and be willing to roll up their sleeves and teach.

Qualifications:

  • Great Partnership Skills: The Manager must be able to work with diverse types of people, quickly translate industry’s best practices into solid, consistent, and repeatable processes while creating a teamwork environment where everyone feels like an owner and embodies our fun-loving culture.
  • Detail driven and vision to scale entire operation. The Manager must be able to take departmental vision and turn them into an organized plan with action items and due dates.
  • Independent and Action Oriented: You must be able to make problematic decisions and implement process changes that have influence on the team and the business.
  • Customer Service Oriented; Manager must be timeline focused with a passion for each customer’s order and instill that “do it right the first time” mentality.
  • Technical Experience: Must understand the technical side of the business and leverage skills to improve upon operational processes.
  • Trainer: Must have an elevated level of detail for taking a finished process and cascading the workings of that process to teams. Trainers must have experience creating BOPs and SOPs.
  • Analytical mind: Must review the business and expand on the processes that are working and improve upon the processes that need improving.
  • Big Picture Minded with an eye on the bottom line. Manager must be cost focused while at the same time able to build a rapidly scalable operation.
  • Quality oriented: Must fiercely protect the customer’s experience. Every order must have a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Metric Driven: Develop metrics that gauge the operation – these metrics will be both operational and financial representations of the performance of the department.
  • Leadership: Manager owns all areas of the distribution center – from service, cost and quality to inventory accuracy and safety. As a manager you must have a keen sense of responsibility.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Budgetary responsibility: Operation Manager has budgetary performance responsibilities. Must ensure that the operation meets or exceeds expectations. Must craft the annual budget.
  • Productivity improvement plans: Operation manager must improve process to ensure better operational performance. Must use metrics and action plans to show command of the improvement cycle.
  • Service improvement plans: Manager must conceive and implement new strategies to improve service to the customer.
  • Team development manager: Manager must work to nurture the morale of the department. Must lead the department through change, while keeping everyone engaged in the process.
  • Collaboration oriented: Manager must work amongst various teams to sort out problems. Must be courteous and empathetic but also direct and focused on solving problems and implement change.

Experience:

  • Must have 5 years of budgetary responsibility. Your responsible for crafting and meeting budget.
  • Must have 5 years of vendor management. Leverage skills to drive improved costing and relationships into typical DC vendors, including ground shipping, and packaging vendors.
  • International & Hazmat shipping experience a plus.
  • Must have 5 years of team leadership experience.
  • Must have 5 years of ERP experience. Experience must include Designing and Implementing ERP systems. Also using the change request system to turn operational learnings into improved ERP, specifically WMS design.
  • Must have knowledge of financial reporting – Income statements and Balance sheets. You must know how operational performance leads to improved financial performance.
  • LEAN methodology preferred. Experience leading teams through change is a plus.

Work Environment: This is an on-site position.

Reporting Relationships: This position reports directly to the Operations Captain.
